San Antonio Incoming Journey
November 12 - 19, 2019 Carolyn Adams and Marcia Sills were the Journey Coordinators for this trip.
Guadeloupe Visits Baton Rouge (#15060)
Mary Doerner volunteered and was appointed Journey Coordinator at the FFBR board meeting in November, 2018 and she began communicating with Deborah Bigord from Guadeloupe. She explained she was a new member and a first-time Journey Coordinator. We began communicating by email with cc's to Nicole Pineau and Therese Vilovar.
I received an overwhelmingly positive response from our club members who graciously agreed to host the 25 ambassadors by the time the FFBR board met in January 2019.
Special thanks must be given to Lynn Robbins for her early assistance with forms and budget, to Harriet Bergeron for being my super co-coodinator, to Joellyn Grass for organizing and reorganizing the dinner parties, to Jiji and Larry Jonas and Carolyn Adams for their hard work at the Welcome and Farewell parties. Invaluable advice and assistance was also provided by Lin Ashton, Trudy Ivy, Barbara Wittcopf, Sheila Melancon, Karen Pharis, and Thornton Cofield at crucial times during the process.
The itinerary included a welcome party with Cajun dancing, a boat tour of Lake Martin, a Rosedown plantation tour, a tour of the LSU Rural Life Museum given in French by a docent, a tour of the new Louisiana State Capitol given in French by a state employee, a visit to the Baton Rouge mayor's office for welcome certificates, and a farewell party with boiled crawfish. Many ambassadors went to the international music festival in Lafayette on the free day.
The ambassadors enjoyed the swamp tour and appreciated the tours given in their native language. They enjoyed participating with the musical instruments at the welcome party and really liked the boiled crawfish at the farewell party. Despite the language barrier everyone had a great time during this journey! Special thanks to Nicole Pineau who took over as the Guadeloupe JC at the last-minute.
