New members: We have experienced quite a growth spurt in our 40th year. We welcome many new members and now have exceeded the 100-member mark!
Monthly “Meet, Greet and Eat” events: Meet up with the FFBR members on December 21st for our monthly “ethnic meal” at 11:30, T J Ribs, 6330 Siegen Lane, Baton Rouge, LA 70809. RSVP: linashton65@gmail.com or call Lin at 225.205.4370. This has proven to be a very fun way to get to know other members, to learn more about their experiences and more about Friendship Force.
2018 Outgoing Journeys: Pay close attention to email updates for FFBR.
April 20-22, 2018 : The Great Lakes, Midwest and Southwest Regions of FF are hosting a very exciting Super Conference in Covington, Kentucky on the Cincinnati Riverfront. Home hosting opportunities by Louisville and Dayton may be an option prior to the conference or Cincinnati after. Stay tuned to learn the latest details as they unfold. This is a great way to get to know other clubs and practices.
The Journey to Rostov-On-Don, Russia is still being negotiated. Linda Knochenmus will be the JC and will send updates.
2018 Incoming Journeys:
March 24-27, 2018 we are hosting a “home-stay” of only 4 days, 3 nights. A group is coming to BR prior to a project in New Orleans called Global Green. Anyone and everyone who has never hosted, please sign up. This is your opportunity to home host one or more of these Friendship Force visitors. Lin Ashton, along with Bob Duncan will explain more at our Holiday party. Email tivy7@cox.net with interest in hosting this journey or any other opportunities.
We will be hosting Bundaberg, Australia October 18-25, 2018. Thank you Sheila Melancon, as Journey Coordinator, along with assistance by Mary Doerner and LaDeta Crawley.
Open World Leadership Center: Rule of Law program: We experienced our first OW program by hosting a delegation from Serbia who were home hosted by Friendship Force members. The delegates immersed themselves in over 30 hours of professionalism and 10 hours of cultural understanding, in one short week in October. They met with every level of Government by starting in Washington, D.C. for their orientation, to meeting with some of our State Legislators, District Attorney, area Judges and prosecutors to the Dean of LSU Law Center. It was a concentrated week of learning. We thank those who hosted, FFBR for the very fun cultural night with Cajun dancing and a delicious jambalaya supper and everyone’s cooperation for making this event a very successful one. Thank you to Art Vingiello for organizing.
Thinking of you: Darwin and Linda Knochenmus have lost another family member so keep them in your thoughts and prayers. Additionally, Jo Ann Wall and Marsha Sills will be having surgery in the near future.
Dear Members,
This has been a great year of learning more about our organization and the reason Friendship Force is so important to promoting peace and cultural understanding. Thank you for allowing me to be your President in 2017.
In friendship, Karen Vingiello
